BIFROST: THIS IS THE BEGINNING

BIFROST: THIS IS THE BEGINNING is a multimodal production of research communication that seeks to raise awareness about realities and risks
of climate change in our time through focused discussions, targeted public communications across multiple channels, educational activities and participatory art engagements in the public sphere, all based on state of the art environmental research. It is a unique collaboration among environmental humanities researchers and media and communication specialists. One core element is a site-specific event, the BIFROST action, which uses different media components and a public manifestation to present compelling stories, scenarios and tightly scripted scientific information to the public concerning climate change mitigation and societal adaptation measures. A discussion-based public event organized with local partners in tandem with documentary art engagements built around research cases and a well coordinated media campaign collectively constitute
the BIFROST action.
Another core element are BIFROST´s digital platforms and mobile applications, which allow audiences to engage with
scientific case studies showcased in the site-specific action even if the manifestation cannot be attended first hand. This
application to FORMAS seeks support for the digital components of the 2016 Action:
1) a dynamic and innovative Bifrost
website;
2) a mobile application for delivering daily science-based text messages and podcasts via subscription, called
#climatethought.
